Signup popup

The account-signup popup: offer a personal coupon, capture newsletter opt-ins, and control exactly when and how often it appears.

The signup popup is the “create an account, get 10% off” modal on your storefront — rebuilt the right way. Instead of a shared welcome code that leaks to coupon sites, every signup mints a unique, single-use code locked to that customer’s account. You control the offer, the audience, the timing, and how politely it behaves.

Manage popups at Marketing → Signup Popups. One active popup shows at a time.

ℹ️ Note: New popups start Off — nothing goes live until you flip Active. (The opposite of promotions, which start active.)

What the shopper experiences

  1. The popup appears (per your triggers) — never on cart or checkout, and never on top of the cookie-consent banner; it waits its turn.
  2. They create an account right in the popup (name, email, password) — and optionally tick the newsletter box for a bigger reward.
  3. Instantly: a unique code like WELCOME-F3S79U appears on screen, already applied to their cart, and they’re signed in.
  4. Within seconds, two emails arrive: a welcome email and their code — see Welcome emails.
  5. The subscriber (if opted in) lands in your mailing list, linked to the account.

Because the code is account-locked and single-use, forwarding it to a friend does nothing — and requiring the account up front means checkout stays clean later (no login wall at payment).

Basics

Field What it does
Name (required) Internal only — shoppers never see it
Active Live/Off switch
Collects Full account (name/email/password) or Email only

Content

All shopper-facing copy is yours to edit: Heading, Body, optional Image URL, Button text, and the Success heading/body shown after signup. Sensible defaults are pre-filled.

Reward

Field What it does
Give a coupon on signup Master switch for the reward
Type / Value Percentage or fixed amount — e.g. 10%
Code prefix Codes mint as PREFIX-XXXXXX, e.g. WELCOME-A1B2C3. Letters/numbers only
Expires after (days) Countdown from signup — default 30. Blank/0 = no expiry

Every code is unique, single-use, and locked to the account that earned it. Codes avoid look-alike characters (no 0/O or 1/I), so they’re easy to read from the email.

Newsletter bonus

Field What it does
Show newsletter opt-in checkbox Adds the opt-in to the form
Checkbox label The shopper-facing pitch, e.g. “BONUS: Subscribe to our newsletter + get an extra 5% off!”
Extra reward when checked Added to the base reward as one code — 10% + 5% mints a single 15% code, nothing stacks

Opt-ins are recorded in your subscriber list linked to the new account; customers who previously unsubscribed are never silently re-subscribed. (For percentage rewards, base + bonus can’t exceed 100%.)

When to show it

Any enabled trigger fires the popup — whichever happens first wins. Set 0 / off to disable a trigger.

Trigger Field
Time on page After (seconds on page) — default 5
Scroll depth After scrolling (%)
Exit intent On exit intent — desktop only (no equivalent on touch devices)
Page count After N pages viewed

Who sees it & how often

Field What it does
Audience Everyone · New visitors only · Returning visitors only
Hide for (days) after dismiss Closed it? It stays gone this long — default 7
Max shows per session Cap per browsing session — default 1
Never show on these paths Extra excluded pages (type a path, press Enter). Cart & checkout are always excluded automatically

On top of your settings, the popup automatically suppresses itself for signed-in customers, for anyone who already converted through it (permanently), and until the visitor has answered the cookie banner.

Schedule (optional)

Starts / Ends run the popup for a window — a holiday signup push that turns itself off. Outside the window the popup simply doesn’t load.

💡 Tip: Testing your own popup? Sign out (it hides for logged-in customers), and use a private/incognito window — your normal browser remembers that you dismissed or converted and politely refuses to nag you.

Next: Welcome emails.
