Appearance & Theme Overrides

Fine-tune a single block's spacing, look, motion, and colors without changing your global theme.

Below a block’s content fields, the settings panel has collapsible groups for look-and-feel. Each group header shows a count badge of how many settings differ from the default, and a group auto-opens when it holds changes. This lets you fine-tune one block without affecting the rest of the site.

Appearance

The most common group. Depending on the block it includes:

  • Section Padding β€” the vertical breathing room around the block (None / Small / Medium / Large / Extra Large).
  • Heading Size β€” from Small up to Display, or Hidden to drop the heading entirely.
  • Columns, Background, Max Width, and other block-specific looks.

Some blocks add their own groups too β€” Playback (Video), Carousel, Call to Action, Contact Info, and more.

Motion

Every block has a Motion group, and it’s always open so you can see it. This is how a section reveals itself as the visitor scrolls to it. Nothing here changes what search engines see: the page is delivered fully visible and the reveal only runs in the browser.

  • Scroll Animation β€” the reveal style: None, Fade, Fade Up, Fade Down, Slide In (Left), Slide In (Right), Scale In, Zoom Out, Blur In, or Flip Up.
  • Speed β€” Theme default, Slow (1s), or Fast (0.35s). The theme default is set under Theme β†’ Animations.
  • Travel Distance β€” Theme default, Subtle (12px), or Bold (48px). Only applies to the presets that move (Fade Up/Down, Slide In, Flip Up).
  • Delay (ms) β€” wait before the reveal starts. Useful to let a heading land before the section under it.
  • Stagger Items β€” for grids and lists (product grids, category grids, brand logos, feature cards, gallery, FAQ, testimonials, promo tiles, process steps…). Instead of the whole section appearing at once, each card or row reveals one after another: Subtle (60ms apart), Normal (100ms), or Bold (160ms).

πŸ’‘ Tip: A good default for a busy home page is Fade Up + Stagger Normal on the grids and Fade on text sections. Leave the hero on None β€” anything above the fold renders instantly regardless, so a hero animation only shows for visitors who scroll back up.

ℹ️ Note: Visitors who have Reduce Motion turned on in their device settings see everything instantly, with no animation. So do all visitors if you turn off Enable Animations in your theme.

Theme Overrides

At the bottom of every top-level block is a Theme Overrides panel β€” this is how a single section can deviate from your global theme (for example, a dark β€œband” between two light sections).

πŸ“· Screenshot: Theme Overrides β†’ Custom, showing the Light/Dark toggle and the grouped color swatches with Reset.

  • Color Scheme β€” a dropdown:
    • Theme default β€” inherits your global theme (writes nothing).
    • Inverse (dark band) β€” a dark section that flips text to light.
    • Brand color β€” paints the section in your primary brand color.
    • Muted tint β€” a soft neutral background.
    • Custom… β€” pick your own colors (below).
    • The presets follow your theme and adapt to dark mode automatically.
  • Custom mode reveals a Light mode / Dark mode toggle (each with its own count) and grouped swatches β€” Surfaces (Background, Surface, Surface alt, Card), Text (Text, Secondary, Muted), and Brand (Primary/accent, Secondary accent, Border). Each swatch has a Reset back to theme default. Colors are set per mode, so a custom light color never bleeds into dark mode.
  • Section Padding override β€” Theme default, or None through Extra Large.

ℹ️ Note: Nested blocks inside a column don’t get their own Theme Overrides β€” they inherit the look of the band they sit in.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Reach for overrides only when a specific section needs to stand out. For site-wide changes, edit the global theme instead β€” see Theme & Branding.
