Saving & publishing

How Save works in the editor, where Draft vs Published lives, and using the live preview.

The visual builder and the page settings screen have separate jobs: the editor saves your layout, and the settings screen controls whether the page is live. Knowing the split saves confusion.

Saving your layout

  • The editor has one Save button in the header. It’s disabled until you have edits; while you have unsaved changes the header shows an amber Unsaved changes flag.
  • Save only writes the page’s blocks — it never touches your other page settings (title, status, SEO). Those are edited on the page settings screen.
  • If a save ever fails, a red banner appears and your work stays in the editor — just try again.

⚠️ Warning: There’s no autosave. If you try to go Back, navigate away, or close the tab with unsaved edits, you’ll get a confirmation prompt so you don’t lose work.

Draft vs Published

The editor has no publish switch — it only saves blocks. A page goes live from the page settings screen:

  1. Open the page settings screen (/dashboard/dealer/pages/[id]).
  2. Set Status to Published (or Draft to hide it).
  3. Click Save Changes.

ℹ️ Note: So the flow is: edit the layout in the Editor → set Draft/Published on the page settings page. Draft pages are hidden from your live site.

The live preview

The center pane is a real, live view of your storefront’s /preview. Edits push to it automatically (no manual refresh), and selecting a section highlights it in the preview.

  • The first load can take a moment — it’s rendering your full store.
  • If the preview never connects (store down, or the Site URL is wrong), you’ll see “The live preview didn’t load. This usually clears with a reload.” with a Reload editor button.
