Roles let you decide, in detail, what each teammate can see, edit, and delete across your store. Build a role once, then assign it to as many people as you like.
How permissions work
A permission is a simple pair: an area of the dashboard (Products, Orders, Inventory, Channelsβ¦) and an action:
- View β can open and read it
- Edit β can view and make changes
- Delete β can edit and remove items
Checking Edit automatically includes View; Delete includes Edit and View. So you only ever grant the highest level you intend.
Two things decide what a person can do
- Your plan β a role can only grant access to features your subscription includes. Areas your plan doesnβt cover appear greyed out in the role editor.
- Their role β within what your plan allows, the role grants exactly the areas you tick.
The person sees the intersection: what your plan includes and what their role grants.
Creating a role
- Go to Settings β Roles and click New role.
- Give it a name (for example βSalesβ or βWarehouseβ).
- In the permission matrix, tick View / Edit / Delete for each area. Use a group header to tick a whole section at once.
- Save.
Starting points
Use a preset, then adjust:
| Preset | Grants |
|---|---|
| Full access | Everything |
| Manager | View + Edit everywhere, no Delete |
| Viewer | View everything, no changes |
| Sales | Orders, Customers, and Returns |
Assigning & changing roles
Assign a role when you invite someone, or change it later from the Team page β changes take effect immediately.
You canβt delete a role while people are still assigned to it (reassign them first), and the built-in Owner role canβt be edited or deleted.
π‘ A worked example. Want warehouse staff who process orders but canβt touch pricing or billing? Make a role with Orders: Edit, Shipments: Edit, and Inventory: View β nothing else β set their access level to Team, and assign it.
